Introduction

This site serves as a curated collection of my work completed during FIQWS 10113 Composition for Creative Expression at City College.

Here, I demonstrate my development as a critical reader, analytical writer, and effective researcher. My chosen pieces showcase my ability to construct sophisticated arguments, integrate complex sources, and engage in thoughtful literary analysis.

Below is my overall views of the class based on the expectations of the syllabus.

Takeaways I had from the course

-I feel like taking this course has helped me really come out of my shell and express myself more through different forms of writing/presentation

-I feel like with some assignments I could’ve done better on because seeing other peoples work it made me want to make my work better

-This class helped me get back into writing because I used to journal but stopped because of a bruise on my finger from writing

Goals of the course

-This class helped me gather, interpret and access information from a variety of sources and points of view because I learned how to find primary sources easily and I also knew already how to find secondary sources which will prove to help in additional research in the future.

-There were a few things I knew already about finding evidence but going to the library classes just helped me find information generally for primary sources from the school library. I also knew a lot about sourcing it in an essay but finding more sources that are primary helped back up my evidence more.

-Considering most of the assignments were from plays that we watched in class, it was easy to pull evidence from the musical/play we watched and use it in our writing even without the help. But the oral arguments just helped me become less shy when it came to speaking out in front of a crowd of unfamiliar faces.

-I feel like I already knew how to articulate how meaning is created from other classes I’ve taken before this one but hearing how my fellow classmates think about certain things also helped me think about things on a deeper level.

-Well, I am a big k-pop fan and I’d consider k-pop a performing art because they’re singing and performing on a stage. I think it serves as a foundation because it helped bring out different cultures from around the world to here in America.

-I feel like this class just helped me embrace my writing more and not doubt myself as much with what I write. I would think my writing is mediocre but with this class it helped me realize my writing isn’t that bad and I could still get a good grade with it.

-I’ve written research papers before when I’ve had to look up different sources to make up a paper so instead of helping, I feel like it enhanced it more by allowing me to make more papers and open my eyes to a topic that I wanted to learn more about (my k-pop research essay).

-I think his course did help because there were many instances where we had to move around the room to talk to different people and in some situations, you learn more about the person you’re working with and it helped build a community within the classroom.
